Nepal provides visa on arrival for citizens of most countries at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu and at designated land border crossings. No prior appointment or embassy visit is required.
The entire visa on arrival process typically takes 15 to 30 minutes. Fill out the online application form before arrival to expedite processing at the immigration counter.
Citizens of nearly all countries are eligible for visa on arrival in Nepal, making it one of the most accessible destinations in Asia for international travelers.
Save time by completing the visa application form online at immigration.gov.np before your flight. Print the confirmation receipt and present it at the immigration counter upon arrival.
Ensure you have the following documents and materials ready before arriving at any Nepal immigration checkpoint.
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended date of departure from Nepal, with at least one blank visa page available.
Two recent passport-size colour photographs (35mm x 45mm) with a white background. Carry printed copies as airport photo services can be limited during peak hours.
Complete the visa application form online at the Department of Immigration website (immigration.gov.np) before your arrival to save time at the airport. Alternatively, fill out the form at the immigration counter.
Carry the visa fee in US dollars cash. Card payments are also accepted at Tribhuvan International Airport. Fees must be paid in foreign currency; Nepalese rupees are not accepted.
Tourist visa fees based on duration of stay. All fees are payable in US dollars or equivalent foreign currency.

Children under 10: Visa is free of charge for children below 10 years of age regardless of nationality. A valid passport for the child is still required.

Overstay penalties: Visitors who overstay their visa will be fined USD 5 per day for the first 30 days of overstay, and USD 10 per day thereafter. Overstay may also affect future visa applications.
Travelers passing through Nepal en route to another destination can obtain a transit visa valid for 24 hours at a cost of USD 5. The transit visa is available at Tribhuvan International Airport and allows you to remain in the airport transit area or briefly visit Kathmandu while awaiting your connecting flight.

Kathmandu

Jhapa
Eastern border crossing connecting to Darjeeling, Siliguri, and northeastern India. A popular entry point for travelers coming from the Indian states of West Bengal and Sikkim.
Parsa
Major southern border crossing linked to Raxaul, Bihar, India. One of the busiest land crossings, well-connected by road to Kathmandu and Pokhara.
Sindhupalchok
Northern border crossing connecting Nepal to Tibet (China) via the Friendship Bridge. Subject to seasonal closures and road conditions; check current status before travel.
Rupandehi (Bhairahawa)
Southern border crossing near Lumbini, the birthplace of Lord Buddha. An ideal entry point for travelers heading directly to Lumbini or onward to Pokhara.
Banke (Nepalgunj)
Mid-western border crossing linked to Rupaidiha, Uttar Pradesh, India. Gateway to Bardia National Park and western Nepal trekking routes.
Kailali (Dhangadhi)
Far-western border crossing connecting to Gauriphanta in Uttar Pradesh, India. Serves as an access point to the remote far-western region of Nepal.
Kanchanpur (Mahendranagar)
The westernmost border crossing, connecting to Banbasa in Uttarakhand, India. Used by travelers heading to the Shuklaphanta National Park area.
Special visa policies and exemptions that apply to specific nationalities and traveler categories.
Indian citizens do not require a visa to enter Nepal. A valid government-issued photo identity card (Voter ID, Aadhaar, or Indian passport) is sufficient for entry. Indian nationals can stay in Nepal for an unlimited duration.
Citizens of SAARC member countries (Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka) are eligible for a free 30-day gratis visa on arrival. This can be extended at the Department of Immigration in Kathmandu.
Nationals of Nigeria, Ghana, Zimbabwe, Swaziland, Cameroon, Somalia, Ethiopia, Iraq, Palestine, and Afghanistan must obtain a visa from a Nepalese embassy or consulate before travel. Visa on arrival is not available for these nationalities.
Children under 10 years of age are exempt from visa fees regardless of nationality. A valid passport for the child is still required.
